The catastrophic event caused by hurricane Katrina has created enormous human need in parts of In Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. In these affected areas no one has been spared. Once again we United Methodist Christians have opportunity to respond with hope and restoration as people begin to put their lives back together.
We United Methodist Christians have already begun the work. Our United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is assessing needs, meeting with annual conferences to coordinate relief efforts, creating opportunities for potential work teams, and giving much needed aid. While some areas are being evacuated, there are many areas north of the coast that need immediate assistance. It is important to understand that the recovery effort will last for years as broken lives and possessions are re-claimed.
There are some immediate things that we Baden United Methodist Christians can do:
Again, pray for the restoration of lives that have been devastated.
